Weird...
After a major WTF moment, I ran to the bathroom and hung my face over the sink. My nose was bleeding more heavily now. It started to clot a little bit, but the blood just kept pouring out of my nose. Now I'm a little scared, as this is worse than the usual nose bleed. Ryan was nice enough to look up and dial the TeleHealth number for me.
After a few minutes of questions, the nurse told me to just keep pinching and see what happens. I did so and after a few MORE minutes, it finally calmed down. Apparently if I have any more nose bleeds like this today, I'm supposed to go to the doctor.
Normally I wouldn't get so scared about stuff like this, but the fact that it wouldn't slow down scared the crap out of me. It shouldn't be an iron level thing, because my prenatal vitamins have iron in them.
So anyway, I can just wonder what the hell just happened and get to work.
......I should have stayed in bed today.........

Baby Stuff
So far Ryan and I have told immediate family, military folks that need to know to help us with things, and a few close friends about the pregnancy. The notice that goes out to everyone else will be waiting until the beginning of May when I start my 2nd trimester.
Anyway, a few of the people we've told have asked us about nursery
plans. Let it be known from the get go:
- We don't plan on doing anything with the baby's room until I'm about 6 months (August-ish)
- We WILL be finding out the baby's sex
- We haven't started designing the room or picked a colour scheme.
- We WILL be setting up a registry or two so you'll be able to know exactly what we want.
I'm excited to be able to do all of the nursery designing stuff (picking cribs, dressers etc) but anything can happen, so we're going to play it safe and wait.
I already have ideas and I'm already leaning towards a modern baby's room, so I'm liking dark wood, but as I said, registry to come. We may put larger furniture items on the registry, and perhaps if you'd want to collaborate on one of those, that's cool :)
I'll be doing a lot of reviews before buying anything to make sure what we buy is safe for the baby.
There's a lot more to think about now besides just cost. Wow...

The Results are in
Pregnancy sucks. LOL
Body changes are happening
Well that's done now. At 7 weeks, my "loose" pants are no longer loose around the waist. The weird thing is that I've only gained maybe 1lb, but my midsection is definitely getting bigger.
I'm going to have to get one of those belly bands sooner rather than later I think.
:S

I had a weird craving today...
The really strange part is that I can't even remember the last time I had eaten one; I bet I was under 10. My dad liked them way back then and so did I. :)
This craving stuff is weird. LOL

Feeling better lately
I had some pre-natal bloodwork done this morning. Fasting is definitely more difficult now, as I'm hungry more often, but I managed to do it. I still have trouble giving blood (even small amounts). The first nurse tried two veins that looked good, but gave nothing. The second nurse managed to get blood in a new spot after digging around a bit (ouch!). Trouble was, there were 6 vials that needed filling and during the filling of the 6th, my vein started giving out. I just clenched my fist tighter and we just barely got enough for that one. This is pretty standard for me, so as uncomfortable as it is, I'm always very patient with the poor nurses.
After that was done, I raced to Tim Hortons to get a yummy fruit & yogurt and a cheese croissant. I'm still totally caffeine-free. If I do have an occasional coffee, it's decaf. I really miss diet coke, though. :(
I also stopped and picked up a super fresh jar of maple syrup. It was a little expensive, but I supported a local farmer. It's also safe for pregnant women to eat, which I checked beforehand.
It's a little surprising the number of things I have to be careful about. For example, the honey I have at home turned out to be unpasteurized, so I'll have to get rid of it :(

Today is a good day!
I decided to try to change my vitamin schedule. Instead of taking them with breakfast, when I'm always nauseous, I decided to try them with dinner instead.
My work day was much more comfortable - I even played ping pong for 1/2 hour!
If each day was like today, the complaints would grind to a halt :)
This nausea is killing me :(
I pretty much feel sick to my stomach every day (mostly morning), although I do stop short from getting physically sick, I come pretty close sometimes.
It's really a not-so-fun part of this whole deal.
I know I've only been complaining so far, but I can't help it! No one warned me how icky this would be. LOL
Also, my boss has definitely noticed a change. Since I'm not feeling well, I'm quieter and not myself, so he's asking if something's wrong or if I'm unhappy. All I can do at this point is say that I'm not feeling well. I wonder how long that will work. He's probably thinking I'm looking for another job...

It finally happened...
I think it had to do with the fact I was hungry. Anyone that knows me is aware that when I'm really, super hungry, I feel like I'm going to puke, and thus need to eat something immediately. I've always been like that.
Now, however, since I'm constantly having queasy moments, that seems to interact poorly with those hungry moments. Luckily I was at home. It lasted only about 2 or 3 minutes and then I was totally fine.
I felt better after a few crackers, then we went to Cora's for breakfast, which really made me feel better.

Blech...
My short answer: miserable. Poor sleep, hunger/nausea, bloating and heartburn. Where's the part that I'm supposed to enjoy?
And to think...only 7 1/2 more months (ugh!)

Futon move
the futon down to the basement so I could sit down there with him and
cool off if I needed to. What a sweetheart.
Got up at 1:30 instead of 4:30 last night. Very much preferred since I
could actually get back to sleep afterward.
I think that I may have to cut down on spicy stuff a bit. Yesterday I had a
tummy ache after eating the buffalo sauce on my wrap at lunch. Le
sigh...
I can't believe how slow these days are going now...

Omg I Slept Through the Night
Do you think something's wrong? (just kidding)
5 weeks 2 days. Apparently our kid is the size of a sweet pea. Awww :)
Oh yeah, I bought my first pair of pregnancy flats at Naturalizer.
They were a little expensive but I figure that if there's a time to
spend a little more on shoes, it would be now.

It's official!!
confirmed the pregnancy at the Doctor's office this morning.
Next appointment is in 4 weeks.
Now we have to decide whether I'll be seeing a midwife or an
obstetrician.
OMFG now it's real! Lol

5 Tests Can't Be Wrong, Right? ;)
Fetal development at 5 weeks
But I'm apparently 5 weeks today! Doctor's office tomorrow for an appointment with a nurse practitioner.

Weight Watchers and Pregnancy
web for all kinds of information.
What was a little hard to find info on is what to do if you're on
Weight Watchers and you find out you're pregnant.
I've been on WW since July of 2009 and I had lost 32lbs from then
until the end of February. Having done the program for so long, it's
hard not to imagine following your points. I started at 25 and I'm
almost at 21 now, which works out to around 1100 cals/day.
Needless to say, I'll be stopping the points tracking immediately, but
I'm not sure how to eat now. You're not supposed to gain weight in
your first trimester but a 150lb woman is supposed to take in 2700
calories a day?!?
How the heck am I supposed to double my intake and NOT gain weight?
Granted, over time, I stopped tracking diligently and I'd go (way)
over my points from time to time, but I still have the mentality of
portion control and low cal/low fat foods. Maybe I just start
substituting lower fat items for a fuller fat one?
Anyway, I'll attend my meeting Tuesday and try to talk to the leader
at the end. I understand you're no longer able to attend meetings once
you're pregnant, so I guess you just have to figure it out on your own.
Gotta love being totally abandoned by the system you've grown
accustomed to following. Sigh..
Btw, according to some online calculators, since I started pregnancy
overweight (159lbs) I'm only supposed to get up to around 183lbs by
the end of the pregnancy. We'll see what the doc says.
And so it begins...
really have any physical indicators of the pregnancy.
Unbelievably, now I can't seem to sleep through the whole night
without having to get up for a bathroom break!! 5am on a Saturday?
Really?

The Start of a New Life
I took the first test the following morning and got the positive symbols + |. Startled, I woke poor Ryan up from his sleep around 6am to tell him the news. "Honey, I think I'm pregnant". "Did you take the test?" he asked. "Yes, that's why I think I'm pregnant." "Well that's cool." Ryan was not only okay with it, he was happy about it.
Only once I had started crying, did he start to realize how anxious I was.
It's not as though we had planned this, what with him in school and all, but we had been discussing the idea of having a child since the summer. We had decided no for the time being, but as time passed, we just kept feeling that not only was it not the right time, but we weren't sure if we'd ever feel like the right time would ever come. I don't know if I'd ever be able to consciously make a decision like that...what with the financial, social and work impacts, it just seems so scary.
I was panicky for a bit, but I still had another long day of learning sessions, so I tried my best to put it to the back of my mind, and I continued the rest of the day.
As the day went on, I kept thinking about the whole situation and I became increasingly comfortable with the idea. Ryan and I have a very loving relationship, we have a comfortable home, and it just felt right.
Later in the day when Ryan came home, we talked a lot more about it and he expressed his excitement. I began to share in the excitement too!
Although apparently those home pregnancy tests can't provide a false positive (only a false negative), I decided to take the second test this morning, with the same result. So I made an appointment to have a test done at the doctor's office early next week.
According to a few websites and iPhone apps, my due date is November 14, but I suppose that could change after speaking with my doc.
Now I'm anxious to tell our families. I know some people recommend sharing only after 3 months, but if you knew me, you know that would not be possible. I'll wait for my second trimester to tell my boss and posting to everyone on Facebook, but family and close friends can share in our excitement now!
My friend Amy sent me a funny (yet poignant) quote from the ShitMyDadSays Twitter feed today.
"It's never the right time to have kids, but it's always the right time for screwing. God's not a dumbshit. He knows how it works."
